Stoke Abbott’s annual Street Fair kicks off this year on Saturday 16th July with the traditional ‘Stoke Abbott Sick Club’ parade at 1.45pm . From 2pm, there’s an exciting array of stalls including a new food fair featuring produce from local suppliers, the Steel the Show steel band and a bigger and better novelty Dog Show with eleven different classes, prizes.

Novelty Dog Show host, Tanya Bruce-Lockhart, will be on the look-out for the dog most like its owner, the dog she would most like to take home with her and the dog with the waggiest tail. Canine friends of all ages, shapes and sizes – and their owners - are welcome and there’s an impressive cup and prizes for each class.

Set out along the village lanes, traditional stalls will include cakes, plants, jams, chutneys plus jewellery, second-hand clothing, ‘Granny’s Attic’, hand-made crafts, books and toys.

This year’s children’s games garden will include fun attractions and games, including an under-fives soft play area and slippery horse as well as the ever-popular fairy cake decorating competition, duck fishing, splat the rat and a prize table for all ages.

Renowned in the area, delicious cream teas will be served throughout the afternoon in the village hall and there will be live music, including the Steel the Show steel band, in the New Inn pub garden and elsewhere in the village.

Car parking, at a cost of £1, is available on the road into the village from Beaminster with a free shuttle bus service to take visitors up to the New Inn.

Proceeds from this year’s fair will go to St Mary’s Church, the village hall and Dorset Air Ambulance.
