The museum houses a collection of items based on local history, with a large archive collection of photographs, pictures and drawings related to the town, its environs and characters. Permanent displays include Roman history and earlier, the Abbey from 705, Sherborne Old Castle from 1136, Sherborne Castle from 1594, the Silk Industry in the 18th and 19th Centuries and a fine Victorian Dolls House.

Nearest major road is A30. Coming from Shaftesbury turn left down Cheap Street. At the bottom of which is the Museum on the right by the conduit.
Nearest station is Sherborne. On leaving Sherborne station, walk along Digby Road to Sherborne Abbey. Ascend the steps to the right of the Abbey and bear right into Church Lane.
