The National Cycle Network Route 2 stretches the 30 miles between the county town of Dorchester and the Devon and Dorset border near the coastal town of Lyme Regis . The route takes you through the very heart of rural Dorset, with the opportunity to take a diversion to see West Dorset's World Heritage coastline .
From this route, a number of new cycle paths have been established. Branching off of the National Cycle Network Route 2, the following are suggestions to enhance your cycling tour of this part of West Dorset:
-Charmouth and nearby hill forts
-Circular cycle around Abbotsbury
-Circular cycle around Bridport
-Circular cycle around Eggardon and Powerstock
- Dorchester , the Frome Valley, Maiden Castle and Sydling
Also beginning at the historic town of Dorchester , the National Cycle Network Route 26 is your guide to the 28 mile journey north to Sherborne . Although it is possible to cycle this route in its entirety in one day, it is advisable to allocate two in order to allow time to explore and appreciate both of these significant West Dorset towns.
National Cycle Network leaflets are available free of charge at any of our Tourist Information Centres , providing a visual representation of the routes and additional details of the area they cover.
