Star Appearances

West Dorset both creates and attracts celebrities. The beauty and functionality of the region's landscape ensures that West Dorset makes frequent appearances on our television screens.

The River Cottage Series

VegetablesThe original River Cottage Channel Four series followed Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall exploration of West Dorset's farmers' markets, local produce and sustainable living from his smallholding near Bridport.

2004 saw Hugh and his family move onto a bigger farm to expand the River Cottage lifestyle, and in 2006 the River Cottage HQ moved to its new location in the Axe Valley on the Dorset/Devon border.

Egg basketThe latest quest from River Cottage HQ, 'Hugh's Chicken Run', sees Hugh (with some encouragement from Jamie Oliver) attempt to establish the first free-range town on the Devon-Dorset border, and grapple with the sensitive issues surrounding food production, animal welfare and healthy eating.

Harbour Lights

West BayAs well as being the location of the original River Cottage, the Bridport and West Bay area is also easily recognisable as the setting for the popular late 1990's TV series 'Harbour Lights', featuring Nick Berry, which told of the ups and downs of being a harbourmaster.
